The morning ritual

Trinity and I do our morning ritual

As I light this candle, I give gratitude for this new day.
And the gift of grace that makes my world anew.
May the fire of enthusiasm and the light of clarity flow now through my being.
Thus I set my mind and heart on a life of purpose and blessing.

Pumpkins

Well, I finally bought some 4 pumpkins for $7.00. Then I drive down the road a little and a woman doing a church fundriser for the past month tells me take as many as I want for free! apparently due to the frost she no longer felt comfortable charging for them. They were all in perfect condition, I swear I am so lucky sometimes. I have 7 now and I am going to go get more

Prayer of offering

1 white votive candle
offering of your choice
picture of your loved one

Light a white votive candle. Lay your offering on your ancestral alter, or next to a picture of your special loved one. Hold your hands together in the prayer position. (Note: The prayer position that most of us are familiar with actually has magickal significance. When you hold your hands together, palm to palm, you are creating a flow of circular energy from the right palm, up your left arm, throught your heart chakra, and down your right arm into your right palm.) Say:

From the dawn of your birth
To the sunset of your death
I honor you.
From the missions you completed
To your duties left undone
I honor you.
From the seasons of your being
Through the cycle of your life
I honor you.
From your time beyond the veil
‘Til your earth entrance back again
May the angles support you
May Spirit surround you
May my healing love reach you
From this moment until the end of time.
So mote it be.

Silver Ravenwolf

I do this every year. It is a very moving ritual.

Halloween Spell

For many witches throughout the world, Halloween is an ideal time to magically do away with weaknesses. The Celts of old, for instance, on Samhain slaughtered all livestock that were too weak to live through the coming winter. Using a quill pen and dragon’s blood ink, write upon a piece of parchment the weaknesses you wish to be rid of. As you concentrate on your intent, crumple up the paper in your “power hand” and toss it into a fire or set it ablaze by holding it above the flame of a black candle. Place it into a fireproof container such as a cast iron cauldron, and as the parchment burns away into ashes, so too shall your weaknesses be consumed by the flames of magic.

Calling the Pumpkins Spell

Try carving up four small pumpkins and then tuck tea-light candles inside. Imagine using these for quarter candles on this October Full Moon. Halloween/Samhain is only a few days away—why not get into the spirit of things and add some enchantment to your group’s Full Moon celebration? Carve the pumpkins in whatever design you prefer: simple faces, stars, a triple Moon, a pentagram, or elemental symbols. As you go to place them at the quarters, try this quarter call.

In the eastern quarter I call knowledge and intuition true.
At the southern quarter I call for passion and courage in all that we do.
Here in the west grant us visions and bless us with love.
In the north I call for security and strength from the gods above.

On the 13 day of Halloween

I wanted to share a wonderful poem I use as part of my Samhain ritual. It is soooo beautiful it makes me cry everytime I read or recite it. So here it is and as always dedicated to all of my loved ones who have passed.

Upon Each Samhain

I miss you most upon each Samhain
When the boundary turns to sheer
I wait until the veil is parted
At the ending of the year.
Sweet spirit, as you walk among us
At the tolling of this eve
I see your face beyond the sunset
And hear your voice upon the breeze.
In the glowing of the candle,
From the shadow on the wall
I watch for you in every movement
And hear your footsteps in the hall.
Can you sit and spend the evening
As the portal opens wide?
Ancestral dead, I bid you welcome
Most recent dead, I pray, abide.
When you come I sense your presence
I put my hand out in the air
A moment, then, we stand united
Palm to palm while waiting there.
I miss you most upon each Samhain
When the boundary turns to sheer
We share these hours until the dawning
Then bid farewell until next year.

Enchanted Halloween Decorations

Color of the day: Black
Incense of the day: Ylang-ylang

Ah October, the season of the Witch is here! Haul out your Samhain/Halloween decorations, but before you put them up, let’s enchant them for protection on this day that is sacred to Mars. The Samhain seasonal colors of orange and black are perfect for this spell. After all, black, red, and orange are Mars colors, too. Use this charm to put some real magic in your decorations this year! Set your decorations out and hold your hands over them while repeating the charm:
I enchant these decorations on this Mars day.
May courage and protection surround us always.
Bats and pumpkins, Witches and ghosts, black cats and ghouls,
Now in my hands, they will become protective tools.
This fun October spell is spun from the heart,
Worked for the good of all with a Witch’s art.
Now, have fun decorating for Samhain and enjoy the season of the Witch.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia
I have been dealing with this for years now. Over the past few months it has gotten worse, the spasms in my back have been so bad as of late I cannot move at times. Most people would say that i look fine so there must not be anything wrong with me, this would include my husband (jerk at times). He does nothing around the house, I have to beg him to help me when I feel like this. I will tell him something really hurts today and he always asks in the coldest voice he can muster " what doesn't hurt, it is a shorter list" Sorry ladies I just need to vent the past few days have been hell for my body, I am on morphine and the highest dose of percocet. My family treats me like a junkie, until they want some of my meds to get high. Again thanks for listening, just needed to vent. I am gonna go chill with the baby.

Overview
Fibromyalgia is a common condition characterized by long-term, body-wide pain and tender points in joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, morning stiffness, sleep problems, headaches, numbness in hands and feet, depression, and anxiety.

Fibromyalgia can develop on its own or along with other musculoskeletal conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.

Symptoms
The overwhelming characteristic of fibromyalgia is long-standing, body-wide pain with defined tender points. Tender points are distinct from trigger points seen in other pain syndromes. Unlike tender points, trigger points can occur in isolation and represent a source of radiating pain, even in the absence of direct pressure.

Fibromyalgia pain can mimic the pain that occurs with various types of arthritis. However, the significant swelling, destruction, and deformity of joints seen in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis does not occur with fibromyalgia syndrome alone.

The soft-tissue pain of fibromyalgia is described as deep-aching, radiating, gnawing, shooting or burning, and ranges from mild to severe. Fibromyalgia sufferers tend to wake up with body aches and stiffness.

For some patients, pain improves during the day and increases again during the evening, though many patients with fibromyalgia have day-long, unrelenting pain. Pain can increase with activity, cold or damp weather, anxiety, and stress.

Specific symptoms:

Body aches
Chronic facial muscle pain or aching
Fatigue
Irritable bowel syndrome
Memory difficulties and cognitive difficulties
Multiple tender areas (muscle and joint pain) on the back of the neck, shoulders, sternum, lower back, hips, shins, elbows, knees
Numbness and tingling
Palpitations
Reduced exercise tolerance
Sleep disturbances
Tension or migraine headaches

Treatment
In mild cases, symptoms may go away when stress is decreased or lifestyle changes are implemented. A combination of treatments including medications, patient education, physical therapy, and counseling are usually recommended. Many fibromyalgia sufferers have found support groups helpful.

In 2007, the Food and Drug Administration approved Pregabalin (Lyrica) as the first drug for the treatment of fibromyalgia. In June 2008, a second drug, Cymbalta, which was previously approved for treating depression, was FDA approved for treating fibromyalgia as well. In 2009 the FDA approved milnacipran (Savella) for the treatment of fibromyalgia.

Certain classes of antidepressant medications are sometimes prescribed for the disorder. Studies show that antidepressants in low doses can decrease depression, relax craniofacial and skeletal muscles, improve sleep quality, and release pain-killing endorphins. Other medications that are used include anti-inflammatory pain medications and medications that work on pain transmission pathways, such as Gabapentin.

Eating a well-balanced diet and avoiding caffeine may help with problems sleeping, and may help reduce the severity of the symptoms. Lifestyle measures to improve the quality of sleep can be effective for fibromyalgia.

Some reports indicate that fish oil, magnesium/malic acid combinations, or vitamins may be effective. Reducing stress and improving coping skills may also help reduce painful symptoms.

Improved fitness through exercise is recommended. Studies have shown that fibromyalgia symptoms can be relieved by aerobic exercise. The best way to begin a fitness program is to start with short sessions of just a few minutes of gentle, low-impact exercises such as walking and swimming. The length of each session can be increased slowly, as tolerated. Attempts at keeping to an exercise program often fail because they are begun too aggressively, with sessions that are too long or too intense. Starting out slowly and gently can help ease you into an effective program you can stick with.

Starting slowly helps stretch and mobilize tight, sore muscles. High-impact aerobics and weight lifting could cause increased discomfort. Symptoms may be relieved by gentle stretching and light massage, as well as acupressure, acupuncture, and relaxation techniques.

Severe cases of fibromyalgia may require a referral to a pain clinic.

Causes
The cause of this disorder is unknown. Physical or emotional trauma may play a role in development of the syndrome. Some evidence suggests that fibromyalgia patients have abnormal pain transmission responses.

It has been suggested that sleep disturbances, which are common in fibromyalgia patients, may actually cause the condition. Another theory suggests that the disorder may be associated with changes in skeletal muscle metabolism, possibly caused by decreased blood flow, which could cause chronic fatigue and weakness.

Others have suggested that an infectious microbe, such as a virus, triggers the illness. At this point, no such virus or microbe has been identified.

Pilot studies have shown a possible inherited tendency toward the disease, though evidence is very preliminary.

Men and women of all ages get fibromyalgia, but the disorder is most common among women aged 20 to 50.

Tests & diagnosis
Diagnosis of fibromyalgia requires a history of a least 3 months of widespread pain, and pain and tenderness in at least 11 of 18 tender-point sites. These tender-point sites include fibrous tissue or muscles of the:

Arms (elbows)
Buttocks
Chest
Knees
Lower back
Neck
Rib cage
Shoulders
Thighs
Sometimes, laboratory and x-ray tests are done to help confirm the diagnosis by ruling out other conditions that may have similar symptoms. The following conditions have been associated with fibromyalgia or mimic its symptoms:

Cancer
Cervical and low-back degenerative disease
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Depression
HIV infection
Hypothyroidism
Irritable bowel syndrome
Lyme disease
Rheumatoid arthritis
Sleep disorders

Prognosis
Fibromyalgia is a common and chronic problem. The symptoms sometimes improve. At other times, the symptoms may worsen and continue for months or years. The key is seeking professional help which includes a multi-faceted approach to the management and treatment of the disease. There is no proof that fibromyalgia syndrome results in an increased death rate.

Prevention
There is no proven prevention for this disorder. However, over the years, the treatment and management of the disease has improved.

When to contact a doctor
Call your health-care provider if you have symptoms of fibromyalgia.

LADY, THANK YOU

Lady, thank you
for this sink of dirty dishes;
we have plenty of food to eat.

Thank you for this pile of dirty, stinky laundry;
we have plenty of nice clothes to wear.

And I would like to thank you, Lady,
for those unmade beds;
they were so warm and comfortable last night.
I know that many have no bed.

My thanks to you, Lady,
for this bathroom,
complete with all the splattered mirrors,
soggy, grimy towels and dirty lavatory;
they are so convenient.

Thank you
for this finger-smudged refrigerator that needs cleaning.
It has served us faithfully for many years.
It is full of cold drinks and enough leftovers for two or three meals.

Thank you, Lady,
for this oven that absolutely must be cleaned today;
It has baked so many things over the years.

The whole family is grateful
for that tall grass in the yard that we all enjoy.
My kids are healthy and able to run and play.

Lady, the presence of all these chores awaiting me
says "You have richly blessed my family."
I shall do them cheerfully and I shall do them gratefully.

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings,
Thank you, Lady, that I can hear.
There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible,
thank you, Lady, that I can see.
Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising,
Thank you, Lady, that I have the strength to rise.
There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic,
when socks are lost, toast is burned and tempers are short, my children are so loud,
Thank you, Lady, for my family.
There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines
and the menu is at times not balanced,
There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous,
Thank you, Lady, for the opportunity to work.
There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to
day and wish my circumstances were not so modest,
Thank you, Lady, for life.

The Art Of Casting Spells

"A spell is a symbolic act done in an altered state of consciousness
in order to cause a desired effect."

To cast a spell is to project energy through a symbol. It is
important to note that the energy is what is key, not the symbol; too
often, the symbols (example: candles, inscense, herbs) are mistaken for the agent that casts the spell.
While props can be useful at times, it is the mind ( or the casters intent)that works the magic, not the symbol or prop.
Correspondences between colors, numbers, and plants do make up a great deal of magical lore.
While particular objects, shapes, colors, scents, and images do work better than others to embody certain ideas, I still feel it is due in part to the feelings, or effort one put into the object.
The most powerful spells are often improvised from materials that feel right
or that one simply happens to have on hand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wishing Herbs
I just wanted to post this because I found it interesting, I do not agree with everything stated in this article.
Love,
Raven
When it comes to wishes, the best advice is to be careful what you wish
for--you just might get it! While there are numerous spells designed
specifically to carry your wish into the universe and to the powers that
can make it
come true, using herbs as well as the four elements in your spell can
help to
ensure its success.
It is common knowledge that herbs possess many properties-- including
numerous magical powers. Herbs add their energy to the spell, which in
turn adds an
extra dimension of power. While many people believe that using a
specific
herb is the only way to make a spell come true, today we know that
sometimes
it is not always possible to get enough of one particular herb,
especially if
it is hard to find. A mix of herbs can work, too.
If you choose to use a mixture of herbs, be sure that none of the herbs
in
the mixture will counteract your wish. Vervain is a good herb to use in
almost all wish spells, because its properties are very general as well
as
protective. Cinnamon, however, would not be a good choice if your wish
is to
release your power. It would counteract the wish and instead grant
additional
power.
You also need to make sure you use the correct ink. For example, Dove's
Blood Ink is the common ink used in wishing spells. However, if your
wish is
destructive in nature, you would use Dragon's Blood Ink instead. A word
of
caution here is that whatever you wish onto another will come back to you
sevenfold, so, again, be careful what you wish for.
When you need a special wish granted, write the wish out in Dove's Blood
Ink
on parchment paper. Make three folds in the paper and place it in a red
flannel bag. Then fill the bag with dandelion petals, sew it closed with
red
thread, and wear it around your neck for three days. Although this spell
is
not recommended for acquiring money or property, it is quite effective
when
used in situations when you are in danger of losing or having it taken
from you
by outside influences.
You can also write your wish on a piece of parchment paper using Dove's
Blood Ink. While the ink is still fresh sprinkle on some peony petals.
Roll the
paper up, and seal it with melted red wax from a candle. Hide the
talisman
in your home, making sure to change the hiding place every third day.
repeat
the spell as you remove and hide the bag. After your wish has been
granted,
destroy the token by burning it.
Here is a common spell that can be chanted three times in succession as
you
perform your ritual. You may adapt it to suit your specific needs. For
example, you can replace the word "wish" with your specific request.
Powers that be grant me a wish today,
Large, small, tiny, or huge.
Let my wish grow here, there, and everywhere,
North, south, east, and west.
Carry my wish through your quarter to the powers that be,
Grant me this wish so that we may rejoice together.
So mote it be.
Here are some popular herbs used in wishing spells.
BASIL is an easy herb to obtain or grow yourself. If your wish is to be
protected from negativity or to be cleansed, then basil is the herb to
use.
BAY LAUREL, commonly known as bay leaf, is used in success and prestige
wishes. Although this is a tender perennial, it does grow well indoors
in a pot.
CALENDULA LEAVES and dried flowers placed under the bed are said to make
one's dreams come true. This is an easy flower to grow. It adds extra
punch to
your herb garden with its bright orange, yellow, and pink petals.
CINNAMON is the spice of choice for wishes dealing with power.
HYSSOP is effective when used in wishing spells for spiritual calmness.
JOB'S TEARS, sewn inside your pillow, are said to make a wish come true
within seven days.
MUSTARD SEED has always had special properties. To make a wishing bag of
your own for a particular objective, place into a drawstring pouch one
rabbit's
foot, five new nails, nine mustard seeds, and thirteen pennies. Anoint
the
bag with Mojo Oil and then rub the bag between your palms as you make
your
wish.
PARSLEY is best used in wishing spells by women. Parsley is effective
for
wishes involving calming an atmosphere or protecting a specific place.
PEPPERMINT is best used for money and prosperity wishes. Peppermint is
said
to give a mentally stimulating vibration. hen growing your own
peppermint,
be sure to put it in a large pot and bury the entire pot. Peppermint is
very
invasive.
ROSEMARY is most effective when used in promotion or advancement wishes.
In
cooler climates, rosemary can be overwintered in a pot indoors.
RUE is an excellent herb to add to your wish spell mixture because it
provides protection. It is also a spiritualizing herb that adds a
calming
vibration to spells. A note of caution: If you are allergic to rue, it
can cause
boils on your skin when you touch it.
SAGE is good if you wish to resolve a problem. It is also a good choice
for
wishing spells that deal with mental clarity. Sage is a very easy herb
to
grow.
VERVAIN is good for making your dreams or wishes come true. Steep the
vervain, covered, in warm water for five minutes. Strain and add the
water to
your bath. The carrying or wearing of vervain places one under the
protective
influences of the Love Goddess. Vervain is also considered a protective
herb
that will guard the wearer from enchantments on them. This is the best
herb
to use for general wishes.
YARROW LEAVES and flowers are often used in wishing spells that deal with
love. A word of caution here: One should not perform a love spell.
These
spells are known to backfire, and one should not try to control the will
of
another. However, the sprinkling of yarrow can increase human love.
Once you have decided which herbs you will be using and are ready to
complete your spell, you will need to measure out the correct amount of
herbs.
Generally a small amount, such as a tablespoon, of each herb is
sufficient.
However, for talismans you may need a bit more in order to fill your
container.
If you are using fresh herbs, be sure to dry them first--especially if
they
will be put into a talisman.
Exercise
I have starting walking for an hour every other day after my huband gets home from work. It is a nice walk and it gives me some time to myself so I can think and just get healthy. I feel the need to get back into shape again , and it won't happen if I stay on the couch all night. So I walk from my house to the water, not sure of the mileage( i will figure it out tonight. Now if I could only stop the hand to mouth stuff.
Boys
A few weeks ago my sons friend spent the night and they had way too much energy, so we sent them outside with some boxing gear. They loved it. Ash didn't wear headgear I wasn't happy about it, but he is trained in mixed martial arts. That being said I think it was wise to give victor a helmet just in case, lol.
Spirit Guides and Guradian Angels
For those of you that know me I am very in tune with my spirit guides. I have some kind of contact with them daily. They are a very comforting presence in my life. I also beleive in angelic helpers as well. Here is an intersting article I found on them. I will delve more deeply into this subject in the coming months. I am planning on doing an educational activity about this for Pagan Center, an awesome online community I belong to. www.pagancenter.com
"What are Spirit Guides?"
These are entities that are known by many names, Spirit Guides, Guides, Helpers or Spirit Helpers, Angels and Guardian Angels. They are all of these things. I have heard them called "controls" or "spirit controls". I do NOT like these names as they do not in any way try to control you. These names are usually used by phoney "mediums" or phoney "psychics" who are trying to bilk some innocent sucker out of their money.
No, they will not make your decisions for you. They feel that this is your life and that you must live in it. They will offer their opinions and advice if you ask for it, but they will NOT tell you what to do. It is your life and you must decide how to live it.
So what are they and where do they come from?
Well, they are souls or spirits that have lived many lifetimes and have gained much wisdom. They are there to help and assist you and are your friends, in fact they are the best friends that you have. They do truly love you and would NEVER do anything to harm you in any way. And even though you may not consciously know it at this time, you already know them. You picked them to help you before you were born and they agreed to be your helpers.
Now what is the difference between an angel and a Spirit Guide? Well, in the Judeao-Christian concept an angel is a spirit that has never lived a human life, rather acts as a messenger or worker of the Divine. Spirit Guides have lived many lifetimes and by doing so have gained much wisdom. And guess what? They often act as messengers or workers of the Divine. Percentage-wise, there are very few angels that have not lived physical lives.
